One of the reasons for a dentist visit is baby tooth extraction (ถอนฟันน้ำนม, term in Thai). Once your child starts to complain of a painful tooth, you know that it is high time to go to a dentist. A simple visit to a dentist can solve a lot of tooth-related problems such as a simple tooth cleaning, fluoride application, correction of crooked teeth, and correction of crowded permanent teeth (ฟันแท้ขึ้นซ้อน, term in Thai), to name a few. However, before you go ahead and bring your child to the dentist, there are a few important aspects you have to check and we will discuss them in this article.

    Know the available treatment options

You probably know that your child requires specialist dental care if you are seeing an orthodontist. Inquire about your alternatives for treatment if your child’s orthodontist recommends braces. Other solutions, like Invisalign, could be an option even if traditional braces is the preferred choice. Your orthodontist will go over your options and assist you in determining which option could be ideal for your child.

Ask about the duration of treatment

For tooth alignment issues, the treatment method can be conservative and the duration varies. Braces are typically worn for one to three years. However, a number of factors will determine how long the patient must wear them. The effectiveness of other therapies, such as retainers, can vary from several months to years. You can learn more about what to anticipate in the future by speaking with your orthodontist.

Know about certain limitations and restrictions

What boundaries or restrictions the kid should adhere to is one of the most crucial questions you can ask. For an instance, if your child needs to wear braces, your child may need to avoid certain foods such as foods that could become lodged in braces and harm them falls under this category. Examples are gums, chewy candies, popcorn, and nuts with shells, to name a few.

    The frequency of dental visit

How frequently your child will require orthodontic care is another crucial topic to address. When teeth start to move, it is an indicator that the brace needs to be adjusted. Hence, you need to visit your dentist frequently. You will be informed by your orthodontist when and how frequently you will need to return in the future.

Is the use of post-brace device such as retainer necessary?

A retainer is frequently needed after braces are removed. By doing this, you can prevent your teeth from moving back. The dentist will thoroughly explain whether your child needs a permanent or removable retainers. Of course, there are various factors to consider before making the final choice.

For your child’s orthodontic needs, it is a must to choose the best dentist in town, whether it is your child’s first dentist appointment or not. Sometimes the very reason your child needs a trip to the dentist is a simple toothache, but after a thorough oral examination, a thorough treatment approach has to be done including fluoride treatment, braces, and aligners. It is good to have any dental issues addressed at an early phase as they are easier to treat than when in advanced stage.
